As indicated by it's title, this division is truly responsible for all communications both within the Wharton County Sheriff's Office as well as it's interaction with the community.
Operators are trained to handle all 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls to the sheriff's office and see that these are quickly routed to the proper officer, deputy, or emergency medical service (EMS) personnel. Operators must be trained in the use of the 9-1-1 / TLETS and the CAD computers systems.
A career in the communications division of the Wharton County Sheriff's Office is very rewarding. This division is often the first to have contact with the public when a call for service is made to the sheriff's office.
When making a 9-1-1 call, it is important to remain calm and try to answer the questions which the TCO might ask. Remember, make the right call, 9-1-1 is to be used for emergencies only.
